Adidas Steffi Graf

.
Time to eat humble pie... Back in June, whilst discussing the merits of the legendary Nike Air Tech Challenge 3/4 and it's endorsee Andre Agassi, i remarked:
After divorcing Brooke Shields in 1999, Agassi married follow tennis player Steffi Graf in 2001. She never had her own shoe, and even if she had, it could never have hoped to have been even half as dope as her husband's Nike Air Tech Challenge
How wrong I was... Steffi does indeed have her own shoe, and though it's not quite on par with the 'Tech Challenge, it is still super fresh... I must admit I have totally overlooked this sneaker... It just so happens I stumbled across a pair at the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet in Ashford, Kent. If you are close by or fancy a trip, give it a try. You will find factory outlet stores from Adidas, Nike, Puma & Reebok amongst all the ususal Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Gap and so forth. The Adidas shop has really been the best in my experience, lots of rare factory samples, lots of Adidas Originals, and even some Adicolor. All at great discount prices. Think £10 a tshirt, £20-30 for Adicolor Superstars.

Back to the post, the Adidas Steffi Graf is a very nice trainer indeed. There's some really nice detail such as perforated stars on the toe box, and nice stripey laces. After doing a bit of research, I discovered that this sneaker was supposedly released around March time ('06) and is in fact a reissue of an original model from 1988.

The sneaker is available as above in white / bloom / slime (!) and as right in white / dark marine / ice blue. Sneakershop.dk has the slimes available at a bargain 77 Euros (down from 110!), to view them . The photos available may not quite do them justice, it's really quite a striking shoe... Or maybe it's just my affection for all things 80s/trainers/tennis.

As this is a Steffi Graf signature model, it is classed as a women's shoe. I am currently deliberating whether or not to get myself a pair (the single pair in the Adidas shop was a size 5 unfortunately), I just have to persuade myslef that I can pull them off. There is nothing overtly feminine about them, pink aside, and they are so damn fresh! Decisions.

Eminem Nike Series

Eminem and Nike have teamed up to make trainers and get all chariatble on yo' ass in the process. The boy Marshall has designed 8 different Eminem Nike Air Max sneakers, with each of the designs seeing an extremely limited run of only 8 pairs (a total of 64 super-rare pairs of trainers). So far the only pictures released have been of the Nike Air Max '87 (I) and the Nike Air Max '90, but a Nike Air Max 360 has been reported and no doubt there will be a Nike Air Max '95 and 180 sometime soon.

The Eminem Nike Air Max trainers will be auctioned off via eBay and Nike shops worldwide (beginning 31st August in London) to benefit the Marshall Mathers Foundation (for troubled youth in southeast Michigan) and ninemillion.org a campaign to bring both education and sports programs to refugees worldwide.

The official Eminem website issued the following statement from the man himself:
"We're always looking for new ways to try to raise money and awareness for the foundation, so when Nike approached us we jumped at the chance. Who wouldn't want to design their own line of Nikes? And to do it for charity makes it that much better."

Thanks to Crooked Tongues for the picture.

Nike ID Website

If you are browsing this page you are probably a fan of trainers and sneakers. You like to buy them, you like to look after them, you take pride in wearing them. Your trainers and the time you spend looking for them, lacing them and cleaning them makes you stick out from all the general-release high street sneaker wearers out there. Right?

Wrong! You have to buy trainers from somewhere and it’s pretty damn likely that that ‘somewhere’ has a bunch of them in stock and will sell them to every Tom, Dick & Harry who wants them. In a city especially, it’s fairly likely that ‘your’ sneakers can be spotted fairly easily. Alas, how can one remedy this unfortunate effect of our ‘Seen it all before’ post-modern existence?

Trainer customisation is not a new concept. Since kids had trainers and access to Biros and felt tips at school, the urge to make shoes personalised and unique has been a persistent one. Many people are into customising their trainers – some are very skilled artists who use dying and painting to achieve their results, others just like to select a nice pair of laces and stuff a jelly-roll under the tongue. For years complete trainer customisation, with truly authentic and professional results was not possible. At least until the advent of Nike ID that is.

Nike ID allows you, the customer, to call all the shots. Customise your footwear and accessories the way you want to. The Nike ID website was relaunched this year in glorious flash and has never looked more appealing, been easy to use or loaded so quickly. Nike ID is a fun experience for any user, regardless of you level of enthusiasm for trainers and sneakers.

The Nike ID process involves the following steps:

1. Start
Choose you shoe. The hardest part! Hmmm, I’ll take one of each please. See below for a list of all shoes currently available for customisation through Nike ID. Choose your size type (US, EUR, UK) and your size. Sizes range from (UK) 5-13 and I am also pleased to report that half sizes are available.

2. Design
This is where the fun really starts. Nike have kindly split up their shoes into an average of around 9 different parts (e.g. Swoosh, air bubble, laces, lining etc.). For each of these parts you can choose from up to 20 colours. Really you could just spend an entire experimenting with the thousands of available combinations… And then still not be sure! There really is a great deal to choose from. Which is exactly what makes Nike ID so fun and addictive.

3. Personalise
Here you get to make your shoe truly unique. Choose a Tag for your design. Most Commonly the Tags will be stitched in to the heel of the shoe, where the Nike logo is commonly found. If you don’t wish to have a personal message, you can opt for the standard Nike logo, but it’s much more fun to choose something personal to you: your name, your crew, a girlfriend’s name, children’s names, your business, something you want to promote, or maybe just “I’M GREAT”.

4. Review
Now look at your beautiful creation from multiple angles. Anything you’re not happy with? Back to the drawing board. All designs can printed, emailed, and saved in your own personal Nike ID Locker for future review before you commit to buying them. After completing your purchase, items are usually shipped to you within 3 weeks.

So what’s currently on offer at Nike ID? Nike have divided their customisable products into the following groupings:

Lacoste Trainers

Lacoste is a brand that I rarely tend to associate with trainers and sneakers, but I think that their presence on UK streets is now undeniable - they seem to have become the new Reebok for Britain's youth. Lacoste trainers are not daringly different, in fact a lot of their models bear striking resemblances to some Reebok and Adidas shoes, but they have identified their target market and are designing trainers that appeal directly to them.

Lacoste was founded in 1933 as La Societe Chemise Lacoste, by French tennis player Rene Lacoste, who had been nicknamed the Alligator by US press and subsequently le Crocodile by the French. Lacoste actually created and wore the first Lacoste polo shirts himself, originally plain garments that later saw the addition of the crocodile emblem after it was created for him by a close friend. After retirement Rene Lacoste went into business with France's leading knitwear manufacturers to produce his now famous crocodile-bearing sports wear - and hey presto! One of the world's leading high-end sportswear brands was created.

So what about Lacoste trainers? On the web, really you have to check JD Sports for the best range of Lacoste shoes and some nice garments too. An obvious Lacoste shoe would be something like the Lacoste Camden Retro, shown left in black / milk white. This trainer is actually reduced right now too if you're quick - at £39.99 (down from £55). It's a nice Stan Smith-looking tennis sneaker. A similar Lacoste trainer would be the Lacoste Carnaby Trim at £49.99, another sneaker that I'm feeling.

Deviating away from tennis styles, Lacoste have just introduced the Lacoste Descend Boot, shown right - a more rugged option for any Lacoste fans seeking something more sturdy for winter, school, work and so forth. At £119.99 it's slightly less affordable than the rest of the range, but the embossed crocodile logo is sure to turn heads.

In the sports fashion / casual market Lacoste also don't fail to deliver. The Lacoste Expel Code Red is probably my pick of the bunch, in the red / white colourway shown left. Available now at £64.99.

Converse All Star - Gotta Catch 'Em All

The folks at Cloggs currently have 46 different Converse All Star's in stock...! That's a lot of Converse shoes, so I have picked out a few favourites below, but I really recommend you check out their site if you are into this shoe. Great range of sizes and reasonable prices with many models reduced.

The white / pink All Star is a leather model, hence the £49.95 price tag - worth it though I am sure. Sizes 3-8. A hot colourway for the girls. To view, click here.

The Converse All Star in forest / gum is another quality release from Converse available at Cloggs. Ok, so I know I'm picking out the pricier models, but I think they warrant their price tags. This limited edition Chuck Taylor is made from rich, velvety nubuck and features a gum sole. Sizes 5 & 6 left £54.95 for both ladies and gentlemen. To view, click here.

Yellow. Whatever happened to yellow? You don't see enough of it these days. Converse All Star Limeade available in sizes 3-8 at £29.95. To view, click here.

Nike Free 7.0

The Nike Free range is based upon the idea of bare feet being the ultimate footwear 'solution' for athletes (have they really thought this through?). Running bare feet supposedly encourages muscle strengthening, prevents injury and aids performance. If you actually use trainers for running, you'll be very interested in the latest model in this range, the Nike Free 7.0. Whilst I'm not a runner, I must say I have recently warmed to this range of sneakers. I've yet to try them out, but aesthetically, they are getting better and better.

The Nike Free 7.0, shown above in the White /Black / Varsity Red colourway and right in the Varsity Royal /White / Black colourway are currently available from Kitbag at the reasonable price of £64.99.

The Nike Free website is really quite wonderful and well worth a look, both to discover the science behind the shoe and to revel in the site's beauty.

Nike Air Jordan IV Military Blue

I finally picked a pair of these up at Size? in Carnaby Street, London at the weekend. I thought they were going to be crazy limited, but they now seem to be generally available - even from Size-Online. The Nike Air Jordan IV is one of the most popular sneakers in history, and this original colourway is a very welcome reissue, very popular amongst collectors and trainer enthusiasts alike. Available now at £79.99, but be quick.

Puma El Rey Storytime & Puma 55 Grommets

The Official Puma Europe Shop is a great online store with a good selection of Puma produce. Of particular note to me was the Puma El Rey Storytime slip on, shown left in the black / vapor blue colourway. At only £40, it's a real temptation. The Puma Shop ships all over Europe and you're able to browse in many languages.

As far as the ladies are concerned, I thought the Puma 55 Grommets, shown right in the violet quartz-whisper white colourway was also real nice. Available from size 4-13 including some 1/2 sizes, it's another well priced shoe from Puma at £45.

To visit the Puma Europe Shop, please click here.

Nike x Stussy Blazer 73 Competition at Size?

Size? are currently running a competition to win a pair of Nike x Stussy Blazer 73s, and all you have to do to stand a chance of winning them is register with the site and answer a very simple question. Here is what they have to say about the Nike x Stussy Blazer 73:

Released back in the summer of 2005, the Nike collaboration with Stussy on the classic Blazer 73 was amongst the most hyped releases of the year. A key part of the L.A. Clerks Pack, the Blazer 73 was designed by Adam Weissman of Stussy.

Reportedly limited to 500 pairs worldwide, these sold out within hours of release and are a true example of deadstock. Featuring Wool-type fabric uppers, a green carpet style swoosh, a slick "L.A" motif embossed onto the insole and a leather toe box and tongue.

Scarlett Johanson love$ Reebok

Reebok just got a whole lot more interesting. Scarlett Johanson has reportedly struck a deal with Reebok to design, model and endorse her own footwear range. The range will be known as Scarlett Hearts Rbk. Forbes reports:

"Amy Schaeffer, Reebok's vice president of lifestyle design, claimed the starlet had taken a very active role in creating the "Scarlett 'Hearts' Rbk" line from the initial concept. Johansson has apparently sat through several product and design meetings with Reebok, including a three-hour session Monday prior to her visit yesterday to its headquarters.

"We've shown her sketches throughout the design process," said Schaeffer. "She has a very strong opinion and vision," she added.

The collection of athletic-inspired pieces will apparently draw on influences from the '70s and '80s. Analysts consider the multiyear deal an attempt to rekindle department store interest in the Reebok brand and reconnect with female customers who built the company into a top athletic footwear empire during the aerobics-nutty 1980s."

Girls Air Max 90 white / pink / grey

Will we ever get bored of this shoe?

No! I hear you all scream. The Nike Air Max 90 is probably my favourite Air Max of all time. Aside from all the specials and limited edition releases of late, it's nice to a general release with a fresh colourway. This white / pink / grey Nike Air Max 90 is available now from Sport-E. If you are a lady with feet size 3-8 and £84.99 to spare, I recommend you check these trainers out.

Nike Air Tech Challenge Petition

Further to my previous post on the legacy of the Nike Air Tech Challenge "Childhood Sneaker Dreams: Nike Air Tech Challenge 3/4 aka Air Agassi", I am pleased to spread the following words...

The nice people at Kick-Fiend are petitioning Nike to re-release this much-loved and well-missed sneaker. To sign the petition, click here.

Nike Air Max Point 5 Preview

Coming soon to JD Sports is the Nike Air Max Point 5. These trainers are a brand new release, but they are steeped in Air Max history - like the hybrid offspring of a a Nike Air Max orgy. The Nike Air Max Point 5 has inherited the Air System from the Air Max ST, the lacing and upper design from the classic Air Max 90, and the sneaker's sole unit has been modelled on the Nike BW. No release date as yet, but the Nike Air Max Point 5 is set to drop soon at £69.99, very reasonable for an Air Max.

Half price Ice Cream? My girlfriend will be happy.

The Reebok Ice Cream Collection is now half price at Kitbag, down from £149.99 to £74.99 - to view them click here

For those of you that have been sleeping, Ice Cream is a collaboration between the multifaceted Pharell Williams and the, er, multifaceted Reebok. The Ice Cream Reebok collection certainly aren't your run of the mill trainers, and I am equally as impressed by the sneakers' packaging as the shoes themselves. The Dice Flavour model is available in the white / red colourway shown above, black / green / yellow and white / green. Also available at this great price is the Beeper model, shown below in black / red / grey below, and also available in grey / green / blue.

The Ice Cream collection is a very limited edition run, and each sneaker has a limited edition number printed on the underside of the tongue. Each pair of trainers comes pacakged with two sets of laces and a flavoured shoe-horn. A great conversation piece, or a great investment. I'll have 2 scoops. Get yours

Reebok Pump Causeway

As is well known, Reebok are not strangers to the idea of inflating trainers & sneakers. The 'Reebok Pump' technology was first introuduced in 1989, allowing wearers to inflate internal air pockets via a pump (usually found on the tongue). Though the technology was used in a wide variety of Reebok models, it was rather gimmicky and faded away promptly - last seen on the retro Reebok reissues of the past couple of years.

The latest development in the Reebok Pump Saga is the brand new Reebok Pump Causeway. The Reebok Pump Causeway differs from previous Reebok Pump technology by introducing an element of artificial intelligence. The Reebok Causeway will inflate itself and adjust your level of comfort depending on your 'performance needs', typically judging the correct inflation within 5 steps. The Pump Auto/Off Smart Valve allows you to choose between auto engagement of the system, or simply turning it off. The Reebok Pump Causeway is an easy-on/off slip-on, with a removable sockliner.

The Reebok Pump Causeway is currently available to pre-order in the white / navy / silver colourway shown above right and the red / shark colourway shown right from the Reebok Store. It is also available to pre order from JD Sports in the black / silver colourway shown above left.

All at £79.99.

World Cup Final Special: France vs Italy

Who would have thought, France, Italy, World Cup Final? It's going to be interesting. Hey, at least it's not Portugal! Whilst you mourn England's departure and continue to despise Ronaldo, why not bag a piece of World Cup history? Perfect for glory-hunting wanabees ("I always said France would do it"), or a sound investment for the future - in a few years time, these products will be very valuable to the French or the Italians, depending on who is the victor (I'm gonna go with France).

The Adidas Originals range has been nothing but good quality, well designed & individaul releases - a cut above standard high street fare. The Adidas Originals France Track Top (above) is another great item, and it's now half price at JD Sports (£24.99) - a real bargain. If you are going to wear it rather than keep it for prosperity, trainer-wise I would suggest teaming it (pun intended) with the Men's Adidas Gazelle II in the red / white colourway (right) - themselves a long standing favourite of football terraces worldwide.

If you want to get behind Italy, you're also in luck. The Adidas Originals Italy Track Top (left) is another bargain, again at half price (£24.99). For trainers, I would pair this jacket up with Men's Adidas Stan Smith II white / green (below). Though the Stan Smith was originally a tennis shoe, it's been very popular with footie fans everywhere. The green sole and tongue detail will subtley accentuate the green of the Il Tricolore on the jacket.

Whoever wins, you are sure to look fresh.

Womens Trainers: Ladies Nike NME / Nike NME Mid Sneakers

Hey Ladies! The Womens Nike NME & NME Mid are brand new sneakers from Nike. The Low version is available in the attention-grabbing white / blue colourway shown left, and the Mid version in the equally beautiful white / pink colourway shown below right. I think lots of guys will be trying (successfully) to get away with the white / blue shoe as it looks great. In my opinion it is a unisex colourway. Hell, I'm sure some guys will rock the pink too... It's a Nike not a heel!

The womens Nike NME trainers are very lightweight, with a leather and canvas upper. For a new design (as opposed to a reissue), the NME is suprisingly dope. Well done Nike! Both models are available from the online shoe store Schuh, at £44.99 for the low, and £49.99 for the mid. Click on the links above to view the offers. Sizes range from (UK) 3 - 8 in both models. Personally, I would have loved to have seen the mid in the blue / white colourway too.
