Time to eat humble pie... Back in June, whilst discussing the merits of the legendary Nike Air Tech Challenge 3/4 and it's endorsee Andre Agassi, i remarked:
After divorcing Brooke Shields in 1999, Agassi married follow tennis player Steffi Graf in 2001. She never had her own shoe, and even if she had, it could never have hoped to have been even half as dope as her husband's Nike Air Tech ChallengeHow wrong I was... Steffi does indeed have her own shoe, and though it's not quite on par with the 'Tech Challenge, it is still super fresh... I must admit I have totally overlooked this sneaker... It just so happens I stumbled across a pair at the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet in Ashford, Kent. If you are close by or fancy a trip, give it a try. You will find factory outlet stores from Adidas, Nike, Puma & Reebok amongst all the ususal Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Gap and so forth. The Adidas shop has really been the best in my experience, lots of rare factory samples, lots of Adidas Originals, and even some Adicolor. All at great discount prices. Think £10 a tshirt, £20-30 for Adicolor Superstars.
Back to the post, the Adidas Steffi Graf is a very nice trainer indeed. There's some really nice detail such as perforated stars on the toe box, and nice stripey laces. After doing a bit of research, I discovered that this sneaker was supposedly released around March time ('06) and is in fact a reissue of an original model from 1988.
The sneaker is available as above in white / bloom / slime (!) and as right in white / dark marine / ice blue. Sneakershop.dk has the slimes available at a bargain 77 Euros (down from 110!), to view them . The photos available may not quite do them justice, it's really quite a striking shoe... Or maybe it's just my affection for all things 80s/trainers/tennis.
As this is a Steffi Graf signature model, it is classed as a women's shoe. I am currently deliberating whether or not to get myself a pair (the single pair in the Adidas shop was a size 5 unfortunately), I just have to persuade myslef that I can pull them off. There is nothing overtly feminine about them, pink aside, and they are so damn fresh! Decisions.
